Edmond Electric earns green honors
Edmond Electric has been recognized as a leader in green power across the nation. Its Pure and Simple Wind Power program received two top 10 utility green power rankings issued by U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Ranking first in the nation is Edmond Electric’s wind power price premium charged to new customers of renewable power. Oak Tree Golf Club gets new owner
Oak Tree Golf Club has been sold to an Oklahoma City businessman who hopes to bring more majors and potentially a regular PGA Tour stop to the course. According to Forbes.com, Oklahoma City is the most recession proof city among the top 50 metropolitan areas. Using the unemployment rate that is well below the national average as well as a real estate market that has not been as affected as other parts of the U.S., Forbes ranked Oklahoma City as the most recession proof. Bond issue could help create jobs at Tinker
A $55 million bond can could create the potential for new jobs and help protect Tinker Air Force Base's future. Election day is today and is open to all voters living within Oklahoma County. Proceeds from the bond issue would be used by the county to buy the closed General Motors plant. The county would lease the 3.8-million-square-foot plant to Tinker, letting the base consolidate many operations and close 69 smaller buildings less energy efficient and more costly to operate. Survey shows Midwest's economic strength
A survey of business executives in nine Midwestern and Plains states suggests their state economies are humming right along despite wholesale inflationary pressures. A report released said the Mid-American Business Conditions Index rose in April to 55.5 from 54.3 in March. Oklahoma’s overall index rose in April to 53.4 from 50.6 in March and 52.6 in February. Components of the overall index were new orders at 52.4, production at 51.4, delivery lead time at 54.4, inventories at 52.5 and employment at 56.9. Courtesy of The Journal Record, May 2, 2008.

UCO recognized for best practices
The University of Central Oklahoma has become the first university in the region to win the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers’ “Best Practices” Grand Finalist award two years in a row. After winning a 2008 “Best Practices” award for its sustainability proposal, “Green University: Changing Tomorrow, Today” in January, UCO beat four other universities to win the title of Grand Finalist at this year’s SACUBO annual meeting in New Orleans. UCO Development offices hires new staff
The University of Central Oklahoma Development Office recently welcomed three new staff members, naming Reagan Hamlin as coordinator of public relations and marketing for the UCO Development Office, Melody Hansen as the development manager for the UCO Wellness Center and College of Mathematics and Sciences, and Judy Reyes-Henderson as development manager for the College of Business Administration and College of Education and Professional Studies. OSBI hosts open house
A dedication ceremony and open house for the new OSBI Forensic Science Center located in Edmond took place May 1. The new facility includes garages for examining cars for crime evidence, an indoor ballistics range and one large crime lab to accommodate investigations involving biology, zoology, firearms/toolmarks. It also will house a drug unit, trace evidence unit and a toxicology unit and will allow for more DNA testing than what was available in the old OSBI lab. The Edmond Economic Development Authority has estimated a $45 million economic development impact for the city from the OSBI lab relocation. The site of the former Portobello's Italian Grill & Wine Bar on the southeast corner of 33rd Street and Broadway is under renovation to become a Tokyo Japanese Steak and Sushi Bar.
