Register for the 2009 Edmond Economic Preview
The Edmond Economic Development Authority's 2009 Economic Preview CD Launch and Luncheon is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 29 in the Nigh University Center at the University of Central Oklahoma. The EEDA will unveil the 2009 Economic Preview CD at this annual event, sponsored by First Fidelity Bank. Pre-registration cost is $35 and walk-ins are $45. This includes the luncheon and the 2009 Economic Preview CD containing a special video from the EEDA and reports collected from each expert. Production company moves to new location
After five years in its current location, Producers' Playhouse will move to its newly constructed studio at 117 NW 142nd St. The Edmond-based independent film and video production company shoots and edits TV commercials, corporate videos and training films. Edmond business uses environment-friendly practices
Since 1988, Pelco Products, a manufacturer of traffic signal hardware, structural poles, decorative lighting and utility hardware, has incorporated environment-friendly practices into its business. The company uses 100 percent wind power through Edmond Electric, operates programmable thermostats and infrared heaters to heat from the ground, decreases fuel use with adjusted employee schedules and recycles paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminum and steel drops and shavings. Ponder currently practices Orthopedics with a specialty in total joint replacement at Oklahoma Sports and Orthopedics Institute. Dr. Walter Scott Waugh is a Family Practice physician specializing in Sports Medicine at Oklahoma Sports and Orthopedics Institute. Dr. Timothy M. GUTHRIE-EDMOND REGIONAL AIRPORT
Geoport looks to expand
In order to achieve C-2 status and become a reliever airport for the Greater Oklahoma City area, the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport is working to acquire more land. Currently occupying 409 acres, Geoport needs the 59 acres on the south part of the airport to meet goals for developing large corporate, commercial type hangars. UCO featured on cover of BusinessWeek
The cover of the November 13 issue of BusinessWeek featured the University of Central Oklahoma's Professional Golf Association Golf Management Program. The promotional cover also included a summary of the four and a half year program as well as quotes from Bob Phelps, director of PGA Golf Management.
Enrollment numbers will increase
Over the next 20 years, enrollment in Edmond Public Schools is expected to increase from more than 20,000 to more than 28,000 according to Edmond Assistant Superintendent Bret Towne. Additionally, the district will build a sixth middle school within the next three to five years and, eventually, a new high school, though additions to the three current high schools delays this need. Edmond's third quarter cost of living below national average
Edmond ranked 12.1 percent below the national average for the third quarter cost of living index, according to the latest Cost of Living Index by ACCRA. The study measures relative price levels for consumer goods and services in participating areas. Edmond's cost of living dropped 0.6 percent from the same period in 2007. Project targets former Oklahomans
Project Boomerang seeks to alleviate the growing shortage of skilled workers in Oklahoma. The organization's goal is to entice former Oklahomans to return to the state and fill vacant positions. The project's Web site, www.okboomerang.com, allows former Oklahomans to sign up and see what types of jobs are available in the state as well as have employers contact them directly. State unemployment rate increases
According to the Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission, the state's unemployment rate increased 0.6 percent from September's rate of 3.5 percent. New partner may propel outlet mall plans
With the addition of new partner Cousins Properties Inc., Horizon Group may take plans for an outlet mall at Interstate 40 and Council Road off hold. Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City will be more than 341,000-square-feet, creating an expected 1,000 jobs and adding approximately $4 million in retail taxes for the city. Downtown businesses change locations
Some stores in downtown Edmond are rearranging. Pamela Hall Grammer will open Edmond Antiques, a multi-dealer shop similar to Eclectix Antiques and Gifts which she managed before it was purchased by Citizens Bank of Edmond. McCall's combined their two spaces to make room for Edmond Antiques at 17 S. Broadway. The Dean-Lively Gallery will move from 16 S. Broadway to 14 S. Citizens Bank of Edmond buys property for $1.3 million

New shopping center begins construction
After successfully receiving approval to build a 168,000-square-foot commercial development in April 2007, Sooner Investment broke ground for The Bridges at Spring Creek this October.
