Edmond’s characteristics change
According to the 2000 U.S. Census figures and statistics released in the 2001 Economic Abstract nearly 60 percent of all Edmond households report having no children in the home. This means that either younger couples without children are moving into Edmond or more empty-nesters and older couples, with high school age children, no children, or children away at college, are migrating to and staying in Edmond. Cox to open in Edmond job market

Cox Communications is expanding facilities and services to help distance themselves from competitors. The new call center at 122nd and Penn will hire several dozen employees this year. Council approves new Holiday Inn
Representatives of a Missouri company said they will be back in Edmond to seek a building permit for a new 80-room hotel. The Holiday Inn Express & Suites commercial site plan was approved unanimously Monday night by Edmond City Council. The new hotel will be constructed on the south side of East Second Street, next to the Fountains Conoco Service Station and will include a 75-person meeting room. Coffee Creek to receive to medical center
A new 7,200 square-foot medical facility is planned for the Village Center at Coffee Creek, at Covell Road and Kelley Avenue. The new facility will house pediatrics and family practice services. Edmond schools have 100 percent Web access
The Edmond school district is one of seven in the state to have 100 percent Web access, a new report shows. A survey during School Technology Day at the state Capitol indicated Edmond has 100 percent of their classrooms ready for the Internet. The average around the state is 81 percent. OKC Metro makes “Wired Cities” list
Oklahoma City has been ranked in the top 50 most wired cities in the country according to the magazine Yahoo! Internet Life. Factors that contribute to this ranking are Net sophistication, the availability of government information on the Web and more. Local artists help takeover downtown

Kick-off for the 22nd annual Downtown Edmond Arts Festival is 10 a.m. May 4. For three days more than 70 artists, 95 percent of whom are local, will takeover the downtown area to showcase their talents. One such local artist is Detective Jim Turner, a 17-year veteran of the Edmond Police department and a University of Central Oklahoma graduate. More student housing on its way

The University of Central Oklahoma has started on the next step of its multiphase plan to increase student housing options. Construction has begun on University Suites, a new student housing facility designed to provide modern on-campus housing to 300 UCO students. University Suites will be on the north side of the UCO campus, adjacent to the University Commons residential facility, the first step in the university's plan to expand its on-campus housing.
