Jetta whirls through changes
Edmond-based Jetta Corporation is in the beginning of a new era. The 20-year maker of whirlpools and custom bathtubs has gone through a string of changes this year including new ownership and management. Dick Johns, founder of the business, sold the company to a group of local investors in May. Last week, the city authorized the issuance of a $1.2 million promissory note through the Edmond Economic Development Authority for the company to refinance its debt. “The idea was to save a great company that had been around for 20 years,” Pippin said. “The EEDA was instrumental in helping us. They were essential in getting this done.” Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, December 3, 2001.

City may have new manager by March
More than 30 applicants already have put themselves into the ring for Edmond’s open city manager position. Lou Fox, spokesman for DMG Maximus, the executive search firm employed by the city, said Monday that the application period for the job closes Friday. To date, 35 to 40 applications have been received by his company. Those applicants hail from California, Florida, Texas and Oklahoma as well as other parts of the country, he said. Fox expects about 75 candidates to apply, he said. After that deadline, Maximus’ work really begins. The company will screen all applicants and select the top 10 to 15 to present to council sometime in January, Fox said. From that report of semifinalists, City Council will pick the top five to eight applicants it would like to bring in for personal interviews. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, December 4, 2001.

City’s demands call for more land
Those who have land for sale soon may profit from the city’s growing needs created by a slate of capital improvement projects. Edmond city officials are on the lookout for no less than seven parcels of land, not to mention a passel of easements and rights of way needed in the next five years for major streets and trails projects such as the Covell Underpass. Plans include finding up to 40 acres for a new fire training facility, eight acres for a new animal shelter, or possibly purchasing about 100 acres along Interstate 35 for a Public Works complex. The city also is interested in purchasing land for the Festival Market design, which calls for relocating the Farmer’s Market and other festival activities in the downtown under permanent pavilions.
