Council Supports Annexation
The Edmond School Board received support from the Edmond City Council to annex a portion of the Oklahoma City School District. Financial issues relating to annexation are now being tackled. Edmond is requesting payment of $500,000 to help offset the costs of annexation for the first year. The 32 square miles of the Arcadia area is operating at a loss for the district. Before the annexation can pass, the districts interested in the area (Oklahoma City, Edmond and Luther) must pass a concurrent resolution calling for an election, then voters affected by the change must approve the annexation. If the resolution is approved and voters agree, the changes could take effect as early as July 1.*Courtesy of The Daily Oklahoman, January 24, 2001.
