Edmond ranked No. 2 in median home value and median family income
Edmond's median home value of $118,400 ranked second highest behind Nichols Hills. That number was up 48 percent from $80,000 for 1990, according to census information. The median monthly mortgage payment for the area was $1,097 in 2000. The Census figures also showed median family income in Edmond was $65,230, second behind Nichols Hills. State jobs growth among nation’s best
Oklahoma has weathered a short-lived national recession and emerged with stronger employment growth than most of the nation, including its neighboring states, according to Oklahoma State University Professor of Economics Dan Rickman. "Cushioned by continued growth in the energy sector, a vibrant construction sector and less sensitivity in manufacturing, the state continued to fare better than the national economy," said Rickman. In Edmond, knowledge-based industries have experienced a significant growth spurt. Knowledge-based employment in Edmond has grown an average of 37.9 percent annually since 1995, according to the Edmond Economic Development Authority. ER at Edmond Medical Center ranks first in patient satisfaction
The Emergency Department at Edmond Medical Center has again received the highest patient satisfaction scores of all Hospital Corporation of America facilities. The medical center has received this recognition for three consecutive quarters. HCA, the parent company of Edmond Medical Center, contracts with The Gallup Organization to conduct quarterly surveys for its 200-plus facilities across the country. Edmond Medical Center begins online recruiting
The workplace environment, educational opportunities and a hospital’s challenges of integrating an employee into a health care organization is essential when recruiting and retaining nurses. E-recruiting is a new program allowing potential job candidates to access job listings online. The electronic program is being initiated by the hospital’s parent company, Health Care Corporation of America. Edmond Medical Center is one of HCA’s pilot hospitals to utilize the system. Canadian company buys Edmond office
The Edmond retail division of Virginia-based Netplex Groups Inc. was bought out by CGI Group Inc., Canada's largest Internet technology service provider. CGI has hired the division's 42 employees and will continue to operate in the same building with the same customers. City Spot

First part of master trails plan funded
The first major portion of Edmond’s master trails plan is now funded thanks to a federal Transportation Enhancement Act for the 21st Century grant announced this week. On Monday, the Oklahoma Transportation Commission announced the TEA-21 grant awards, and Edmond received $397,393 for the Mitch Park-Coffee Creek Trail. It will be matched with local funds in the amount of $139,625, said Mayor Saundra Naifeh, who attended the Monday meeting. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, June 5, 2002.

Technology Awards Gala
The Oklahoma Technology Awards Gala will feature Oklahoma technology companies and technology innovators that have achieved significant milestones. The evening ceremonies will include the induction of 13 inaugural members into the Oklahoma Inventors Hall of Fame. Special recognition will also be given to recipients of federal Small Business Innovation Research grants, one of which is Edmond-based DESC Inc., a company dedicated to developing software and decision aids for first-responder teams responding to or planning for catastrophic disasters. The event begins at 6 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2002 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Tickets to the event are $50 per person.
