State economy headed up
Oklahoma’s economy is headed up according to a monthly report compiled by University of Oklahoma economist, Robert Dauffenbach. The report is made up of data in five categories: national employment, Oklahoma employment, Oklahoma City employment, Tulsa employment and the U.S. core rate of inflation. A father and son team are building family values into their new company, Securitas Life Insurance. The name was derived from the Latin word "securitas" meaning security and peace, which they thought fitting for a life and health insurance company. Farmers Market this Saturday
Oklahoma farmers have once again set up shop selling fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and bedding plants and more at the Edmond Farmer’s Market in downtown Edmond. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through Oct. 26 in the parking lot just east of the City Administration Building, 100 East First St. Read Edmond Life & Leisure each week for a listing of the items available at the market.

OC names new director of MBA program
Oklahoma Christian University's Fast-Track MBA program will have a new director when it launches its third year of classes in September. Ken Johnson, MBA, CPA, has been named director of the program, succeeding Don Drew, who will become a full-time professor of management in the College of Business. For the past two years, Johnson has been an adjunct faculty member in the MBA program, teaching accounting. He has extensive experience in business administration, most recently as financial administrator for the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center campus. Edmond approves purchase of east Edmond property
Edmond City Council recently voted to negotiate a purchase agreement for 135 acres of land on the east side of Interstate 35 near Covell. The purchase price is not to exceed $1.25 million and the city will pay closing costs on the land.
