Eateries, Inc. inks new Garcia’s franchise deal

Vincent Orza, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Eateries, Inc. recently announced the company has signed a new franchise agreement for Garcia’s Mexican Restaurants. Best Restaurants, L.L.C. of Edmond has contracted for the franchising rights for Garcia’s Mexican Restaurants in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Sacramento, California, market areas. Recently, Best Restaurants purchased the Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Carmichael, California, Garcia’s restaurants from Eateries. Eateries, Inc. is headquartered in Edmond and owns, operates, franchises, and licenses 76 restaurants in 26 states under the names Garfield’s Restaurant and Pub, Garcia’s Mexican Restaurants and Pepperoni Grill.Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, September 22, 2002.

Farmers Market this Saturday

Oklahoma farmers have once again set up shop selling fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and bedding plants and more at the Edmond Farmer’s Market in downtown Edmond. The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through Oct. 26 in the parking lot just east of the City Administration Building, 100 East First St. Read Edmond Life & Leisure each week for a listing of the items available at the market.

On Campus

UCO reports record enrollment

The third largest university in Oklahoma continues to grow. Freshman enrollment at the University of Central Oklahoma increased for the eighth consecutive year this fall, while total enrollment at the university reached its highest level since 1995. UCO enrolled 15,444 students this fall. This represents a 4.7 percent increase, or 703 more students as compared to last year’s fall total of 14,741. The university’s total undergraduate population is 13,212 students up 924 from last year. Other increases include the number of students attending full time, credit hours taken and the university’s international student population. In all, 10,340 graduate and undergraduate students are attending full time this semester, up from last year’s full-time population of 9,609. UCO’s international student population again reached an all-time high this year. This population, 1,664, is up from last year’s record total of 1,652 students who attend UCO on student visas. Student enrollment by classification shows that 4,681 freshman students, 2,368 sophomores, 2,515 juniors, 3,648 seniors and 2,232 graduate students are attending UCO. Edmond woman named to state board

Gov. Frank Keating announced this week new appointments to state boards and commissions. Debra Mitchell of Edmond was named to a new position on the Oklahoma Science and Technology Research and Development Board. Defying the odds
Statistics show 80 percent of companies fail within the first five years. 4,600 fail every day. How is that for odds to overcome? Defying the odds, a crash course in entrepreneurialism is a five week series developed by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs. The series will be held on the campuses of Francis Tuttle Technology Center in Oklahoma City and Moore Norman Technology Center in Norman. The Crash Course on Entrepreneurialism will run for five consecutive weeks beginning September 30th.
