$770,000 raised for arts institute

A yearlong funding effort has secured nearly $770,000 dollars toward building a proposed structure for the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond. Project supporters hope to raise the remaining money by January, when the city approval process for construction will begin. The goal is $1.1 million. The institute, which offers fine arts instruction for adults and children, has outgrown its present 3,000-square-foot facility at 1400 S. Broadway. The proposed structure will be built on Edwards Street between Broadway and Boulevard, and will allow instructors to offer a wider variety of classes. The new building will feature an art gallery, a courtyard area where sculptors can display their work, and other areas of music, dance and theater classes. City Spot

City completes busy year

Edmond’s city hall has been buzzing this year with a long list of projects and accomplishments for 2002. New City Manager Larry Stevens said all of these things show the great health of the city as it continues to improve and grow. One of the top priorities for city officials has been the new Community Imaging Program, which in its first year has added a city forester and started a large beautification project in the medians along Broadway. Other city improvements include a variety of street projects, the most visible of which is 15th Street. The street has been widened to allow center turn lanes and a decorated median with new street lights and other amenities. This particular project is expected to be complete shortly after the new year. Although the city has been busy with many projects in 2002 the new year will bring many more exciting changes to the growing community. Courtesy of The Edmond Sun, December 26, 2002.
