Forensic Science
Advances in scientific technology for crime scene examination make forensic science an in-demand career field. Nationwide trends estimate job openings in technical investigations, forensic nursing and accounting and criminology to rise approximately 19 percent by 2012. Over the last five years, approximately 150 students have graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Forensic Science from UCO. With exciting developments like the OSBI Forensic Science Center and the UCO Forensic Science Institute, Edmond is becoming a major hub for forensic science study and business.

University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) Forensic Science Institute
The UCO Forensic Science Institute is a comprehensive training and research organization for students, professionals, and first responders in all aspects of evidence collection, preservation, analysis, reporting, and testimony. Construction on the Institute's building was completed in early 2010. The facility is on the UCO campus across from the OSBI Forensic Science Center and houses a 165-seat training center, three 50-seat classrooms and office space for employees and faculty members. UCO and AT&T partnered to create the AT&T Digital Evidence and Cyber Security Laboratory, which serves the State of Oklahoma and all law enforcement agencies in processing digital evidence. The Institute has conducted training events with hundreds attending from across the country as well as international training events in seven different countries. The partnership between UCO, OSBI, AT&T and other regional law enforcement agencies has helped make Edmond home to a forensic science program unlike any other in the U.S.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) Forensic Science Center
This $30 million facility known as the OSBI Forensic Science Center sits across from UCO. The OSBI currently employs 59 full-time people in its Edmond facility. Providing forensic science services in drug identification, latent prints, shoe and tire impressions, forensic biology, toxicology, trace evidence, firearms and tool marks and crime scene investigation, the OSBI assists all Oklahoma law enforcement agencies in the discovery and detection of criminal activity.
